A PRAYER FOR OUR CHURCH

said at Evening Prayer

We thank you O Father

for this ancient and historic Parish Church of West Ham,

for our Royal Patron,

our Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth,

and for all our benefactors;

and we pray,

that following the example of all the saints,

and of those who have worshipped here and gone to their rest,

we in our day, will give you true and faithful service,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For our clergy and church officers

Guide and prosper all those who work for the spread of the Gospel among all people - enlighten with your Spirit all places of education that everywhere will be filled with the knowledge of your truth.

Tuesday

For our community, for all local councillors and those who work for the borough. For the police, fire and medical services and all those who help by doing
voluntary work in our area.

Dear Lord, guide the leaders of our community in the ways of peace, justice and fairness. Bless those who work to keep our area clean and safe and all those who work for the benefit of our community.

Wednesday

For our schools, all teachers and students at: West Ham Church Primary, Sarah Bonnell, Rebecca Cheetham Nursery, Manor, Ranelagh and Portway.

Lord, bless our schools and all who work, teach and study there. May they know your ways, your love, your word. Guide their learning and make their schools places of peace and friendliness.

For peace in the world

Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed: kindle, in the hearts of all, the true love of peace and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom till the earth is full of the knowledge of your love.

Friday

For the sick and lonely and all those who are afraid.

Dear Lord, comfort all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit, give them courage and hope in their troubles: and bring them the joy of your salvation.

Saturday

That God's love and kingdom may be shown In West Ham.
For our development project

Lord, bless our community and may your love shine through this area. Help us to respond to the needs of our neighbours so that all that we do, is led by your spirit.

Daily Prayer

Prayers are said daily in the church at 8am Monday to Friday. Also there is a prayer board in the church where you can leave a prayer request and light a candle. These prayers are then offered up daily.

Lighthouses of Prayer

Talking to God about our neighbourhoods before talking to our neighbours about God.

In Argentina there has been an amazing turning to God - it is estimated that 35% of the population has been affected -and prayer has been the basis of it.

The vision is simply that leaders of the Church should come together in true unity and with a city-wide vision, repenting and being reconciled over past differences; that all Christians should then flow together in unity and prayer to see the darkness driven back and men and women able then to respond to the Gospel and come to faith in Christ.

LIGHTHOUSES OF PRAYER are individual Christian households agreeing to pray for their neighbours, their street or their block. It is the first stage in sharing the Good News.

Every street, every block in Newham should be covered with prayer for our neighbours, for their needs, and to open the door for God to answer these prayers and to show his glory and compassion. Through this concentrated prayer the spiritual climate is changed, and the door is opened for sharing the Good News.

Every Christian household should be a Lighthouse of Prayer.

It is based on Jesus' instruction to his disciples.

There is no rush - take it "one inch at a time".

At the time of writing there are about 600 STREETS with lighthouses of prayer in Newham. Our area is under-represented so far - but we can quickly change that.
